Bottom Line Up Front: The Bushnell Legend 1200 Arc Rangefinder is a full-featured unit that attempts to meet the needs of all hunters. And though it wasn’t unanimous, users seem to agree.

It takes a bit to set up and use with so many features, but as it gets more of a track record, Bushnell may just have a winner on their hands.

Bushnell Legend 1200 ARC Range Finder Review

Bushnell makes some quality hunting optics of all types, though sometimes their entry-level offerings don’t rank quite as high. This is clearly not one of their entry-level models. The Legend 1200 ARC Rangefinder is designed to be the hunter’s rangefinder, no matter what kind of hunter you are.

Need a rangefinder that computes “shoots like” distance in Bow mode for bow hunting? This one does that. Need a model that ‘does the math’ for bullet holdover at a variety of different ranges? The Legend 1200 allows sight-ins at 100, 150, 200 and 300-yards. Need a long range model that’s rated to over 1000 yards? Yep, this one can handle it (though 475 yards may be more realistic for a non-reflective animal like a deer).

In fact, if it weren’t for a small number of complaints about quality control, this very well could be the best rated rangefinder around. There were just a few, and part of the problem was that the sample size of user reviews isn’t huge. Any manufacturer will have a few duds, it’s just too early to tell with this model if it’s just a blip. Bushnell is dedicated to hunting optics, and there’s no reason to think they won’t be on top of any potential quality issue.  As this model develops more of a track record, the Legend 1200 ARC may become the gold standard if it lives up to its promise.

Features of the Bushnell Legend 1200 Arc

  • Rated range from 5 yards to 1200 yards
  • Bow mode: calculates “shoots like” distance given angle and range from 10-99 yds
  • VSI (Variable Sight-In) allows sight-in distance options of 100, 150, 200 or 300 yards sight-in distance in rifle mode
  • Continuous scan and prioritization modes to go with the first return or distant returns
  • Compact dimensions of 1.7″ x 4.3″ x 2.9″ for easy carrying
  • Rainguard HD (R) antifog, waterproof lens coating
  • Uses 1 CR2 lithium battery for long life (included along with carrying case and strap)
  • Accurate within 1 yard

One of the only downsides of such a full-featured model is that it can be a bit complicated, in both setup and use. It’s part of the tradeoff. Most of that complication is up front, though – once you learn the different modes and how to cycle through them, it gets much easier to use. All in all, this unit is well worth watching and deserves strong consideration no matter what style of hunting you prefer.

Things that are great about it:
  • Considering all its features, a very good price to performance
  • Archery mode for angle compensation out to 100 yards
  • Long range capability, depending on target
  • 6x magnification for both near and long range use
  • ARC technology for handling the steepest inclines and angles, up to 90 deg
  • Variable Sight-In allows a lot of flexibility in getting your true zero
Things that could be better:
  • All those features may make it a bit more complicated to learn and use
  • Doesn’t yet have the track record for quality control as other models

We’re going to keep our eyes on this model and suggest you do the same. Sometimes manufacturers that try to be all things to all people end up pleasing no one. So far, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Legend 1200 ARC.

Actual users love their Bushnell Legend 1200 ARC rangefinder

Carlos, a verified buyer, says this model met everything he was looking for:

…I could say that this unit seems to almost have it all. Portability and packed with more features than I would really need. The option to change meters to yards and ARC(angle range compensation) and a bullet drop calculation. The only thing missing in my opinion is; a lit reticle feature for low light applications. The glass does have some slight spots that are stated in the manual are part of the production process, but they are few and have only seen them around the right upper edge, otherwise the glass looks very acceptable. However this is not a spotting scope or binocular. Its funtion is to determine range, and it does that well. I have been shopping around for price in many webistes for quite some time and Amazon has had the best price on this item I have seen….

Conclusion

The Bushnell Legend 1200 ARC rangefinder is a full-featured model that appeals to hunters of all types, no matter what style of hunting they pursue. While it doesn’t have quite the track record  to beat out the Nikon Riflehunter 550 just yet, the decision between the two models isn’t an easy one. If you are willing to learn all the features of this unit, then this rangefinder may be a perfect match.
